Lesson 49: More Challenging Word Problems Involving +, -, x, ÷
In this lesson you'll get some additional practice converting word problems into standard notation, and then solving them.
These problems involve different operations. Try to solve each one on your own using all of the knowledge that you learned so far, then check your answer to see if it is correct. If you are not able to do these problems easily and accurately, first review all of the previous lessons, and if you still need help, use the link below to ask me a question.
1. Rachael has 738 baseball cards, but within the last year she damaged, lost, or gave away a total of 459 of them. How many good-condition cards does she have remaining? Answer: 279
2. Giada made 200 cookies for a house party. She's inviting 6 guests. She wants everyone, including herself, to get the same number of cookies. How many does each person get, and how many are left over? (This is a trick question. Read it very carefully). Answer: 28 R 4
3. On Monday, Mario counted three hundred eighty-seven coins. On Tuesday he counted six hundred ninety-one more. On Wednesday he counted seven hundred seventy-seven more. How many did he count over the three days? Answer: 1855
4. Paula is having a large party. She's inviting 72 guests, and she'd like for each guest to receive a bag of exactly 294 jelly beans. How many jelly beans does she need to have, if she is not keeping any for herself? Answer: 21168
