About Me

Larry Zafran -- MathWithLarry.com -- Private Math Tutoring in Cary, NC -- Free Online Math Help for All Hi, I'm Larry Zafran. I taught math for one year at an underperforming public high school in NYC, and I taught math to learning disabled students from grades 3 – 12 for one semester at a special school. I have several years' experience offering private math tutoring to students of various grade levels.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in computer science with a 3.9 GPA. I was one course short of obtaining a minor in math, and two courses short of obtaining a minor in psychology. I have earned most of the credits toward a Master’s degree in secondary math education, but I am no longer pursuing that degree at this time. During my year of teaching at the public school, I had time to complete most, but not all of the testing and special requirements that would have been necessary for me to have obtained permanent, full licensure under NY State law.

Prior to teaching math, I worked for various companies in NYC doing computer technical support and training. I presently reside in Cary, NC. I’m self-employed, and am no longer teaching, but I’ve returned to offering private math tutoring in my home, with an emphasis on older students who are at risk of not passing the required math tests to earn a diploma. I am a dedicated, early-advanced student of classical piano. I enjoy watching science fiction, and playing World of Warcraft and other computer and console games with my fiancée. I am very interested in the topics of weight loss and fitness, after having successfully overcome 35 years of obesity. In fact, I am currently considering pursuing a career as a personal trainer and weight loss coach, although I will always continue to offer math tutoring. My fiancée and I are the organizers of an active strategy boardgaming group in our area.
